Google API Services Usage Disclosure

Last updated: May 20, 2026

This page explains how TLDR Parents, Inc. ("TLDR Parents") uses information received from Google APIs. It supplements our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

TLDR Parents' use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Limited Use Compliance

Specifically:

  • We do not allow humans to read your Google user data, except (a) with your affirmative agreement for specific messages, files, or other data; (b) as necessary for security purposes (such as investigating abuse); (c) to comply with applicable law; or (d) where the data has been aggregated and is used for internal operations in accordance with applicable privacy and other laws.
  • We do not use or transfer Google user data for serving ads, including retargeting, personalized, or interest-based advertising.
  • We limit our use of Google user data to providing or improving user-facing features that are prominent in the TLDR Parents user interface. We do not use the data for any other purpose.
  • We do not transfer Google user data to others except as necessary to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent in the TLDR Parents user interface, to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with notice to users.
  • We do not allow our AI providers (including OpenAI) to use Google user data to train their models.

What Google Data We Access, and Why

When you connect your Google account to TLDR Parents, we request the following scopes:

Gmail

  • Read access to your Gmail messages. We scan messages to identify those that are family-related — school communications, activity schedules, sign-ups, deadlines, and similar — and extract structured event information (dates, times, locations, what to bring) so we can present it in your daily family briefing and family calendar.

Google Calendar

  • Read access to your calendars and events. We use this to display your existing schedule alongside the events we extract, so you have a complete picture in one place.
  • Write access to your calendars and events. If you enable this feature, we create events on your behalf from information we've extracted, so you don't have to add them manually. You can disable this at any time in your settings.

Basic profile information

  • Your name and email address. Used for account creation, identification, and to address communications to you.

How We Process Google Data

We process Google data only as needed to provide the features you've enabled:

  1. Filtering. We first identify which messages are family-related so we can focus exclusively on those.
  2. Extraction. We extract structured information from family-related messages (event names, dates, times, locations, action items, what to bring).
  3. AI summarization. To generate human-readable summaries and action items, we send the content of family-related messages to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI is contractually prohibited from using this data to train its models or for any purpose other than providing the service to us.
  4. Storage. We store the extracted structured information and the outputs we generate (such as your daily briefing). We do not store your entire mailbox.

What We Will Not Do

  • We will not read your email except as part of the automated processing described above, or with your affirmative agreement (for example, when you ask us to debug a specific message).
  • We will not send email or modify your inbox without your express permission.
  • We will not modify your calendar without your permission.
  • We will not use your Google data to serve ads, including retargeting, personalized, or interest-based ads.
  • We will not allow our AI providers to train on your data.
  • We will not transfer your Google data to third parties except as described in this disclosure and our Privacy Policy.

Your Control

You can disconnect TLDR Parents from your Google account at any time:

When you disconnect, we stop receiving new data from Google immediately. We delete data we received from Google from our active systems within a reasonable period after disconnection, typically within 30 days, except where we are required or permitted to retain it for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or operational reasons. See our Privacy Policy for full details on retention.
